Races during the summertime are sailed in the evenings to take advantage of cooler temperatures and more-consistent breezes. Races generally start at 7:00 PM, but check the Notice of Race for details specific to each event.
Evening races on four Saturdays use pursuit starts -- slower boats start earlier and faster boats start later, on a schedule according to the the PHRF (handicap) rating of each boat. If everyone sails equally well, the all-together-now finish should be exciting! These low-pressure casual sailing events are a great way to work your way into the racing scene on Lake Murray. This is not a "series" so there is no cumulative score.; each race has its own prizes. Get out there and be a winner!
Three special events occur every summer.
Single-handed Race: Do you really need all of those crew members? Run the whole boat by yourself to prove that you don't! Or that you do, as the case may be.
Couples Race: Sail with your sweetheart. No yelling allowed!
Overnight Race: Start at 7PM and sail through the night under a full moon. For night owls, there can't be a better race than this. But even those who value their 10PM bedtime often find this race irresistible.
